The Patio Egg gets rid of pesky pests

This year, mosquitoes are proving to be more than just a nuisance.

And while the city deliberates its next course of action in the war against the insects, let us introduce to your anti-mosquito arsenal a defense far better than the garden-variety citronella candle.

It’s the Skeeter Screen Patio Egg and, fittingly, it was hatched right in our own backyard: North Dallas.

Created by the Garland-based Scent Shop, the Patio Egg is simply a porous ceramic vessel. But once you fill it with Skeeter Screen–the company’s patented mosquito-repelling formulation–you’ll be on your way to skeeter-less surroundings. The DEET-free repellent is derived from natural essential oils, and the kit comes with an attractive crocheted holder that makes for easy hanging installation.

Scent Shop, a family-owned business that began as a perfume store in the 1970s, is clearly dedicated to engineering fine aromas, no matter their purpose. In fact, the Skeeter Screen’s odor is quite pleasant, almost a cross between a fragrant flower and, well, Froot Loops.

Finally, something sweet comes out of this rather unpleasant situation.
